Peter’s 2nd Birthday

by Lorri on November 27, 2012

We got a little bit of snow again for Peter’s birthday!  He really enjoyed playing with the little characters in the birthday ring, just like all his siblings do!  He got a little shy when we sang “Happy Birthday” to him, but he really enjoyed the gingerbread cake that Charlotte made him.

He wouldn’t wear his bee costume, so he went as a 49er instead. He carried his football for most of the night.

Charlotte’s Worship dance

by Lorri on July 17, 2012

Charlotte took a week-long Worship Workshop at her dance studio this summer. Along with ballet and contemporary dance, they had a “creative worship” class where they studied the names of God. At the end of the week they had a performance and this is her group’s dance:

More Charlotte Dance Photos

by Lorri on May 5, 2012

Charlotte recently had the lead role in her Broadway class’s production of “Under the Sea” from “The Little Mermaid”. As Sebastian, she opened not only their dance, but the whole recital when she crab-walked onstage and said, “Ariel, listen to me. Life under the sea is better than anything they’ve got up there.” She had a couple of other singing solos, as well as a couple of dance solos. We are so proud of her!

At a show in March, her class performed the same piece, but her best friend was Sebastian, and Charlotte was Seaweed. Still cute!

Her Broadway class also did “The Farmer and the Cowman” from “Oklahoma!”. She was a cowman. Cutest darn cowboy this side of the Rockies!

Nutcrackers 1 and 2, 2011

by Lorri on December 30, 2011

Charlotte performed in 2 different Nutcracker productions this year. The first was over Thanksgiving weekend. Ballet Idaho came to town to perform with the Colorado Springs Philharmonic and local children filled in the rest of the roles. This year Charlotte was a Party Girl, so she had her own stage-sisters and parents. Party Girl is probably the best role for girls her age and skill level because they are on stage for most of the first act and get to do quite a bit of acting as well. It was fun to watch her interact with the other people on stage, pretending to talk to them and also to see her react to the various goings on. She got to be hypnotized by Drosslemeyer and sobbed when the Nutcracker is injured.

In December she performed with the Colorado Youth Ballet, the pre-professional company associated with her ballet school. She was offered a spot in the company way back in August. The company members work on various productions all year, and the Nutcracker is their biggest show. She was a Party Girl in one show and a Battle Soldier in the other show. This time her role as party girl was much larger since this production was highlighting the student dancers with just a few adults filling in as needed. Once again she got a whole new on-stage family!

As a Battle Soldier she was part of the Nutcracker’s army to defeat the Rat King and his minions. She and the other soldiers had to be very accurate in their dancing in order to preserve the look of soldiers marching in unison.

We are so proud of our dancer! She has worked so hard this season, often in rehearsals from 2 PM to almost 7 PM. It really showed, though. She was just outstanding in all of her performances. Unfortunately, we don’t have any video of her shows with the CS Philharmonic, but we will have DVDs of each of her shows with the Colorado Youth Ballet. We’ll be happy to share them!

Charlotte spent the last 2 weeks at a Broadway at her ballet studio. One hour a day *each* of ballet, jazz and modern, plus an hour and a half of Broadway singing/dancing/acting. On Friday they showcased their hard work. Here, her class performs “It’s a Hard Knock Life” from “Annie.” More videos to come…
